  28. Sure!  There was a great piece in WIRED a while back that discussed how
  29. their "Sonic the Hedgehog in a Suit" cover photo was done.  Essentially the
  30. artist drew a greyscale image that was used as a spherical displacement. 
  31. With multiple draw, render, tweek sessions they got exactly what they
  32. wanted.  Apparently the result worked quite well, WIRED was getting
  33. requests from people asking to "borrow the Sonic costume." !?!

  37. PS - I don't mean to imply that this particular image was done in
  38. LightWave...  It was not, as far as I can rememeber...  Just that the
  39. technique (using a greyscale image to generate a passable "face" through
  40. displacement mapping) does have merit.
